Monitoring Drug and Chemical Trends Virtual Diversion Awareness Training

The Diversion Control Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration is pleased to present a webinar covering the monitoring of drug and chemical trends for targeted regulatory responses. Diversion Control Division's Drug & Chemical Evaluation Section Chief, Dr. Terrance Boos will discuss how his section monitors misuse and abuse information and chemical utilization and diversion for new trends and opportunities to protect the public and strengthen the supply chain.
Dr. Boos will provide information regarding the following:
- Data collection efforts and regulatory responses.
- The manufacture and introduction of new psychoactive substances (NPS) negatively impacting health and safety of our communities.
- How NPS can redefine drug markets, contributing to new patterns of abuse and patient populations.
- How NPS and their associated products, to include an expanding variety of drug forms, push the limits of laws, regulations, and science.
- The rapid expansion, access, and variability of psychoactive products associated directly with harm and challenges the lawful supply chain.
- Counterfeit pills to the chemicals used in the clandestine manufacture and how entities attempt to deliver poisons directly to unsuspecting users with no regard for health and safety issues and the process to determine medicine.
- The importance of surveillance through early warning systems to develop a response plan and how can be leveraged to identify emerging threats before they become widespread.
